During a workshop in New York City in the fall 2025, I happened to pass by a food cart near the 14th Street subway station.

The backdrop of the large, impersonal building, and the way the harsh light from the cart reflected on the random passers-by, caught my attention.

I returned to the spot for four consecutive evenings, taking more than 300 photographs in relatively low light. Since I wanted to shoot from a low angle, this meant squatting for long periods of time.
